The story of Final Fantasy 7 centers around Cloud, a mercenary who becomes involved with a resistance group opposing the mega-corporation Shinra, which controls Midgar and keeps much of its population in perpetual poverty. A number of characters accompany Cloud on his journey; one of these is Tifa Lockhart, a bartender, martial artist, and key member of the resistance group AVALANCHE. Tifa has stood by Cloud’s side in every iteration of Final Fantasy 7, and has also appeared in a number of spin-off titles.

On the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Reddit community, a user going by Profaniter shared an art piece by an artist called @sreliata showcasing the “evolution of Tifa.” The piece features three versions of the character: her model from the original version of Final Fantasy 7, an artist-created model inspired by her appearance in the game’s manual, and another artist creation inspired by her Remake redesign. While fans were intrigued to note how Tifa had changed over the course of several decades, some responses criticized the lack of mention of her appearances in spinoff titles such as the Dissidia fighting games, the Kingdom Hearts series, or the tie-in film Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children.

While Tifa’s design has definitely changed throughout the years, her appearance remains relatively the same. All main versions of Tifa feature her iconic long black hair, red boots, and monochrome outfit including a white crop top and black suspenders. Tifa’s relatively simple outfit has inspired a number of cosplays over the years, and many fans consider her to be one of Final Fantasy 7’s most recognizable characters.

Sreliata’s piece chronicling the evolution of Tifa is just one example of art and other creative projects made by fans during the long wait for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. Fans have drawn the characters, cosplayed as them, and even created their own box art for the still unannounced second part of the remake. Although there may still be months or even years until fans see the next piece of the re-imagined story, at least they can enjoy plenty of creative content from the Final Fantasy 7 community in the meantime.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
