Created by PJ Rascals, the cinematic starts on a rooftop in the center of a large city. As the rain pours on the downtown area, a translocator lands on the rooftop, teleporting the main character Sombra into the picture. The filmmakers weren’t afraid to give fans a look at the scenery as the camera switches to an incredible wide shot of the city. Complete with flying vehicles and a giant billboard with a picture of D.Va, it becomes apparent that the location is the city of Busan, the home of the mech pilot.

After a moment of surveying her surroundings, Sombra jumps off the roof and activates her Ultimate ability called EMP. Sending out a wave of energy, the hacker manages to cripple the entire city as cars, billboards, and even trains shut down. The short film ends with the city of Busan left much darker than seen at the beginning of the cinematic.

This new cinematic made by PJ Rascals has amazed fans with its level of detail rivaling the official Overwatch animated shorts created by Blizzard. This is made even more impressive considering this is the creators’ first major project. One highlight for many fans was the D.Va logo of the bunny transforming into Sombra’s signature skull as the EMP takes effect. Even a number of popular Overwatch players such as KarQ were impressed by the incredible quality of the project. “This was dope,” he commented.

This new animated short comes as fans continue to wait for Overwatch 2. Players received a first look at the anticipated sequel at Blizzcon 2019. Boasting a new co-op story mode along with a new competitive game type called Push, players were anxious to hear more from the game. While fans have received occasional updates on the progress of the game, the wait for release of the sequel has been long as the developers continue to work on the project. At least fanmade cinematics like the one from PJ Rascals provide fans with new Overwatch content as they continue to wait for the next installment in the franchise.
